Clernates

I have a question for anyone and everyone here. Do you know what
"clernates" is? I live in a subdivision where all the street names are
plants and flowers, like Snapdragon, Wake Robin, and Saguaro. One
street in the area is named Clernates, and no one knows what it means,
or even how to pronounce it.
Can anyone here offer any info?

My guess is that someone misread a hand-written "Clematis", mistaking m
for r and n, and i for e. The error was propagated through all the
planning and sign-making process, with no one wanting to admit that a)
they couldn't read the writing and b) they had no idea what plant it was.

My guess is that someone misread a hand-written "Clematis", mistaking m
for r and n, and i for e. The error was propagated through all the
planning and sign-making process, with no one wanting to admit that a)
they couldn't read the writing and b) they had no idea what plant it was.

Quite a good possibility, particularly given that the area also has a
Clematis Way. Clernates Drive might be a misread of Clematis Drive.
Funny that they would have gotten it right in one place and goofed up in
another, though. (The area has six or more streets and adjoining
culs-de-sac named Cyclamen: Drive, Way, Place, Court, Circle, Cove,
etc.)

Only if we're very lucky. I also get people knocking at my door all
the time who've gotten the wrong street and are looking for people a
block or two over. One was a process server...
